Toddler Guilt.
This is what Joel and I call it when we find ourselves doing something we consider to be lazy or just not right in our parenting of Leo.
We had toddler guilt over his lunches. Each morning when we’re getting ready to leave for the day we threw in a jar of diced veggies or fruits and a can of something pre-made (like spaghetti-o’s or mac n cheese) for Leo to take to Wilma’s for lunch. I know this is a typical lunch and it’s what all the other toddlers bring – but we want good healthy foods for Leo. We are already blessed because right now Leo will eat just about anything, we should be taking advantage of that by giving him good foods! Not to mention all the fun we’ve been having at home on weekends cutting food into fun shapes!
We got Leo his very first lunch box this weekend! Today I made him his first lunch with it! I wanted his first lunchbox lunch to be at home with me so I could get pictures! We got him a Japanese style lunch box. These are so cute and they have compartments for keeping the food separate.
Here is what the box looked like in the package.

Here is what it looks like out of the package and empty.

It comes with a cute bag to store it in!

Here is one preparation picture. I cut raw zucchini up into stars with our mini cookie cutters. Note the scraps? I put them aside for later use in my soups and stir-frys! I also cut the whole zucchini up in different shapes and stored them in a container in the fridge, now I can just pull them out next time and not have to cut!

I made half a sandwich and cut that into cute shapes as well. With the scraps I cut smaller little cube shapes. We don’t like to waste food!

Here is the whole box. Top left: raw zucchini stars on top of cooked carrot slices. Bottom left: a sliced up apricot. Right side: the sandwich.

With the lid on:

I told Leo I had a special lunch for him and he got all excited! He loves it when I cut his food into fun shapes! We even made up a song during lunch “twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder how you taste!” He loved it – ate it up!!
